This is the day the Lord has made. Focus your
prayer on the needs and events of the day. Yesterday is gone, it cannot be
retrieved. The events of tomorrow may or may never happen. Today is here,
don’t waste it, begin with prayer? (Kent McClain)
Prayer does not make God see things as we see them; it helps us see
things the way God see them.
God may deny our requests,
but will never disappoint our trust.
We should pray to be re-constructed, not that God should be instructed.
(Paraphrase of Augustine)
I reserve a few minutes for
God each day, but how many minutes does God reserve for me each day; is it
not every minute of each day; morning, noon, and night? (Psalm 121).
Lord, hear my prayer! Shall He who made the ear, my ear, not hear?
(George Herbert, revised by Kent McClain)
Nothing lies beyond the reach of prayer except that which lies outside
the will of God. Yancy
Prayer is the power by which that comes to pass which otherwise would not
take place.” Andrew Murray
Great followers of Christ and leaders make
prayer their first priority, poor ones make it
their last resort.
Psalm 139:23-24 23 Search me, O
God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24 and see if
there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.
I Thessalonians 5: 16-19 16 Rejoice always; 17 pray without
ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in
Christ Jesus. 19 Do not quench the Spirit.
Eccles 5:2-3 2 Do not be hasty in word or impulsive in thought
to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven and you
are on the earth; therefore let your words be few. 3 For the dream comes
through much effort and the voice of a fool through many words.
Ps. 63:1-,4,6-8 1 O God, You are
my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns
for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water. 2 Thus I have
seen You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory. 3 Because Your
lovingkindness is better than life, my lips will praise You. 4 So I will
bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. 6 When I
remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches, 7 For You
have been my help, And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy. 8 My soul
clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.
Luke 6:12
It was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray and He
spent the whole night in prayer to God.
John 14:12-14 12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes
in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he
will do; because I go to the Father.13 “Whatever you ask in My name, that
will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 “If you ask
Me anything in My name, I will do it.
John 15:16 “You did not choose Me but I chose you, and
appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would
remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to
you.
John 17:20-22 20 “I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but
for those also who believe in Me through their word; 21 that they may
all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may
be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22
“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they
may be one, just as We are one.
Matt. 18:18-20 18 “Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on
earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall
have been loosed in heaven. 19 “Again I say to you, that if two of you
agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them
by My Father who is in heaven. 20 “For where two or three have gathered
together in My name, I am there in their midst.”
Ps. 61:1-4 1 Hear my cry, O God; Give heed to my prayer. 2
From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; lead me to
the rock that is higher than I. 3 For You have been a refuge for me, a tower
of strength against the enemy. 4 Let me dwell in Your tent forever; Let me
take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.
Matthew 6:5-18 5
“When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to
stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may
be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 6 “But
you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to
your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in
secret will reward you. 7 “And when you are praying, do not use
meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will
be heard for their many words. 8 “So do not be like them; for your Father
knows what you need before you ask Him. 9 “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our
Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10. ‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 ‘Give us this day our
daily bread. 12 ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our
debtors. 13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
[For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]’ 14
“For if you forgive others for their transgressions, you’re heavenly Father
will also forgive you. 15 “But if you do not forgive others, then your
Father will not forgive your transgressions. 16 “Whenever you fast, do not
put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance
so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to
you, they have their reward in full. 17 “But you, when you fast, anoint your
head and wash your face18 so that your fasting will not be noticed by men,
but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done
in secret will reward you.
Matthew 7: 7-11
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it
will be opened to you.8“For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks
finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 “Or what man is there
among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? 10 “Or
if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? 11 “If you
then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much
more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask
Him!
Romans 8:26-28 26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our
weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit
Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and He who
searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He
intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that
God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to
those who are called according to His purpose.
Psalm 37: 3-6 3 Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the
land and cultivate faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will
give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord, trust
also in Him, and He will do it. 6 He will bring forth your righteousness as
the light and your judgment as the noonday
Ps. 30:4-5 4 Sing praise to the
Lord, you His godly ones, and
give thanks to His holy name. 5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor
is for a lifetime; weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes
in the morning.
