Spiritual opportunity knocks, but temptations bang on your front door.
A trial is a thermometer which tells you how sick you are and is the
remedy to get you well.
God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.
While in prison in a Bedford jail, while making shoe laces for his
family, John Bunyon wrote Pilgrim’s Progress. Out of our trials can come our
greatest contributions for the Lord.
We should be like a kite, rising higher when the winds of trial hit.
Defeat is not failure until you stop trying.
Romans 5:3-5 3 And not only this, but we also exult in our
tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4 and
perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope does
not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our
hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Romans 8:18 For
I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be
compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
James 1:14 1 James, a bond-servant of
God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes who are dispersed
abroad: Greetings. 2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter
various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and
complete, lacking in nothing
Gal.Gal. 5:7-8 7 You were running
well; who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8
This persuasion did not come from Him who calls
you.
James 1:12-15 12 Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial;
for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the
Lord has promised to those who love Him. 13 Let no one say when he is
tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and
He Himself does not tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is
carried away and enticed by his own lust. 15 Then when lust has conceived,
it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.
Pro 25: 26 Like a trampled spring and a polluted well is a
righteous man who gives way before the
wicked.
Gal. 5:16-23 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will
not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire
against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in
opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you
please. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. 19
Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity,
sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of
anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing,
and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned
you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of
God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such
things there is no law.
Heb. 4:14-16 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest
who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast
our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize
with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are,
yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne
of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of
need.
I Cor. 10:13 No
temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is
faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but
with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be
able to endure it.
Hebrews 12:1-4 1 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of
witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the
sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race
that is set before us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter
of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the
shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For
consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so
that you will not grow weary and lose heart. 4
You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your
striving against sin.
I Cor. 6:18-20 18 Flee immorality, every other sin that a man
commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is
in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you
have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
Matthew 5:27-29 27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You
shall not commit adultery’; 28 but I say to you that everyone who looks at a
woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his
heart. 29 “If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it
from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body,
than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
