Week Three - Day 7

Prayer

We should pray to be re-constructed, not that God should be instructed.  (Paraphrase of Augustine)

Our works

James 1:22-27 22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.  23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;  24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does. 26 If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless.  27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Faith/Salvation

Romans 10:9-11   9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

Anger

Eccles 11:10   So, remove grief and anger from your heart and put away pain from your body, because childhood and the prime of life are fleeting.

Courage/Our  words

Acts 18:9-11 9            And the Lord said to Paul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent; 10 for I am with you.

Knowledge

2 Tim. 3:16-17 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Anger

Proverbs 15: 18 A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but the slow to anger calms a dispute.
