Not God’s Plan for Marriage
At the very beginning of time when God created this world, usa check He created man; yet He did not create him to be alone, usa but to share his life with a woman he could love completely and with whom he could bare children. God ordained the spiritual fellowship of marriage; Adam and Eve were the first man and woman to experience such a relationship (Genesis 2:21-24).
As a result, Adam and Eve intimately shared their life, love, work, and relationship with God together. This first marriage was really quite ideal, for it was without any rebellion against God, it was without sin. It was a marriage not centered on self, which is often the root of sin, but on God. In the beginning of this Godly union, there were three parts to the marriage not two, there was Adam, there was Eve, and there was God.
Unfortunately, Adam and Eve rebelled against God, and because of that the original innocence and beauty of that very first marriage was lost. Sad to say, it cannot be fully recovered until sin is banished from the earth forever, and this will happen when Christ returns (I Cor

. 15:21-22; I Thess. 4:16-18). But the closest approximation to that first marriage comes when a man and a woman committed to Christ join God in the spiritual fellowship of marriage. For like the first marriage in the Garden of Eden there are three parts to the marriage not two. There is man; there is woman, and there is God and together they can experience His love and purpose for their lives here on earth.
If the account of Adam and Eve as taught in Genesis introduced the spiritual fellowship of marriage, Paul in his letter to the Ephesians completes it (Ephesians 5:22-33).
In Paul’s teaching he uses the illustration of a marriage to describe the church’s relationship with Christ. And in so doing, he also describes what a marriage is like when Christ is at the center. In Paul’s teaching about the church and Christ, he compares Christ to a groom, and the church to a bride. The application of this illustration is tremendous for a marriage based in Christ, because the things Christ did for the church are the things a Godly man should do for his wife. And the sought after and ideal responses Jesus wanted from His church are the responses a wife should have toward her husband.
The Just As and So Should for Me
Just as Christ was the established leader of the church, one who led in a loving way, so should a Christian husband lead with his wife.
Just as Christ demonstrated a servant heart with the church, so should a Christian husband humbly serve his wife.
Just as Christ demonstrated great compassion for His people, often healing them of their various diseases and afflictions, so should a Christian husband do all he can to bring all sorts of healing (physical, emotional, spiritual) to his wife when she needs it.
Just as Christ forgave His people of their sins, rebellions and failures, so should a Christian husband do like wise. If a wife has done something wrong, and repentance is sought, forgiveness needs to be given as many times as it happens. There should be no memory of any forgiven offense.
Just as Christ loved the church so much that He willingly gave His life for her, so should a Christian husband sacrifice his own life for his wife if need be.
The Just As and So Should for Women
Just as the church honored Christ as its spiritual leader, depending upon Him for guidance, so should a Christian wife put her faith in her husband’s leadership and look to him for guidance.
Just as the church loved Christ passionately for the love He gave on the cross, so should a Christian wife passionately love her husband for the life he will give her throughout their years together.
Just as the church obeyed Christ and desired to serve Him fully, so should a Christian wife give genuine obedience to her husband, doing all she can to serve him fully
Just as the church was a mirror to reflect how all men and women in Christ were to respond to Him, so should the Christian wife be an example to her husband of how he should similarly submit himself before Christ
Same Sex Marriage
Same sex marriage is not ordained of God according to the Bible (Leviticus 20: 13). It has no place in the kingdom of God (Romans 1: 20-22; 24; 26-27). There is not one passage of Scripture in the entire Bible that supports same sex marriage, nor the homosexuality in which it is rooted. There is not one spiritual leader in the Bible who ever advocated or practiced homosexuality, nor any relationship remotely connected to it.
In a God ordained marriage there are three parts to the relationship; there is man, woman, and God. There never can be three parts to a marriage between two men or two women for such a union runs counter to everything the Bible teaches about the homosexual. Therefore God could never be a part of such a relationship.
When Paul wrote of marriage a being a picture of Christ’s relation to the church, he was speaking of a Christ centered man and a Christ centered woman. Two men or two women entering into a marriage relationship does not have Christ at the center. And even if both claim Christ as Savior they enter into a marriage where He will never give His blessing or approval. He cannot, because it is a relationship not centered in Him, but in one’s sinful lusts.
When Paul used the marriage illustration to picture Christ’s relationship with the church, same sex marriage was hardly what he was thinking of. Homosexuality according to the Scripture is perverted and sinful, neither Christ nor His bride, the church, is seen this way (I Corinthians 6: 9-11).
Genesis 2:21-24 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. 22 The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib, which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” 24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.
I Cor. 15:21-22 21 For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.
I Thess. 4:16-18 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Ephesians 5:22-33 22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. 24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. 28 So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; 29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, 30 because we are members of His body 31 For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. 32 This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.
Leviticus 20: 13 ” If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their blood guiltiness is upon them.”
Romans 1: 20-22; 24; 26-27 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
I Corinthians 6: 9-11 9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
